Course Description

In this lecture and hands-on training, students will cover the innovative technology behind skin tightening and cellulite reduction using Radio Frequency (RF). Students will learn Radio Frequency (RF) indications, contraindications, and proper application methodology. In the classroom, lectures will emphasize patient assessment, clinical evaluations, and proper procedures.

In 2009, the Texas Legislature enacted new provisions to allow a person to find out before applying whether he or she would likely be denied a license due to his or her criminal history. This was due to the time and expense involved in applying for a license, which in some cases includes completing required education and taking an examination. Who can operate a laser hair removal device?

A person wishing to perform laser hair removal procedures must apply for and obtain a certificate issued by the agency.

There are four (4) levels of laser hair removal personnel each requiring different levels of training. The personnel include a Laser Hair Removal Apprentice-In-Training, Laser Hair Removal Technician, Senior Laser Hair Removal Technician, and Laser Hair Removal Professional.

What are laser hair removal devices?

Laser hair removal devices are any lasers or IPL’s used for removing hair.

Does my esthetician specialty license authorize me to perform laser hair removal?

No, an esthetician specialty license does not authorize the use of lasers. Under Occupations Code Section 1602.002(a) (9), an esthetician may remove superfluous hair from a person's body using depilatories, preparations, or tweezing techniques. Laser hair removal is not a temporary hair removal method, and cannot be performed by estheticians.
