October calls for all things spooky and spine-chilling, which is the perfect time to get yourself a vampire facial! Treating yourself with this luxurious bloody facial for the month of October is the best way to get into the Halloween spirit if you ask me! You might be wondering, “what in the world is that?” as spooky as it sounds, it is completely non-invasive and comes with many benefits, so let’s talk about it!

What is a vampire facial?

A vampire facial is also known as the Platelet-Rich Plasma Facial (PRP Facial), is the combination of micro-needling with the application of platelet-rich plasma that is derived from your own blood. The PRP facial treatment begins with micro-needling, which serves the purpose of creating tiny pinpricks in your skin, that leads your skin’s response in stimulating its natural collagen and elastin production (Swenson, 2020). Shortly after, PRP is injected through the microchannels that were created via micro-needling to boost skin cell regeneration. PRP is usually extracted from your blood using a centrifuge, separating it from your red and white blood cells. Platelets are found in your blood and contribute to essential growth and healing functions (Senson, 2020). Now let’s talk benefits!

What are the benefits of the vampire facial?

It stimulates the production of

  • Collagen

  • Tightens facial skin

  • Improves scarring

  • Improves pigmentation

  • Rejuvenates skin

  • Plumps skin

  • Reduces wrinkles

How long does it take to see results?

Usually, it may take up to three to four weeks for a client to begin to notice some improvements in their skin like elasticity and texture, but it may take up to three months for collagen to begin producing.

Who should get a PRP facial and is it safe?

Undergoing this treatment is completely safe if done with sterilized equipment in a clean environment and usually poses little to no risk.

A Platelet-Rich Plasma Facial is ideal for those who begin to see signs of aging, such as delicate lines, uneven texture, or sunspots, as well as someone who is looking to improve acne scars and would want to make them look less visible. Here at Ippodaro Medspa we offer a PRF facial, short for "Platelet-Rich Fibrin", which takes the same concept as the PRP facial except PRF encourages longer-term benefits due to having the capacity to release growth factors over time so don't forget to check out our services!

Here’s what to expect after a Vampire Facial

After undergoing the vampire facial, redness, itching, and heat are usually common symptoms after the treatment. Since the procedure is non-invasive these symptoms are expected to settle down within a few days. During downtime, doctors will suggest avoiding any contact with your face, minimizing sun exposure, and switching over to a gentle cleanser avoiding any alcohol-based products, artificial fragrances, and exfoliants for at least 72 hours post-procedure (Shravan, 2021). There is usually little to no downtime after getting a PRP facial.

Is it worth giving it a try?

Definitely! Why not? It poses little to no risk with the right doctor and has amazing benefits when it comes to getting a Platelet-Rich Plasma Facial and after that,

you can take a selfie and give your family and friends a good scare!
